EGL Electrode Pumping Instructions

A.)Open main valve and evacuate unit to 0 mm (Torr). Close main valve.

B.)Backfill with 3 mm (Torr) of air.

C.)Switch on bombarder and increase to 250mA. Hold at this setting while maintaining pressure between 3 and 4 mm (Torr) with main valve.

D.)When the unit is at 150C/310F, increase current to 350mA.

E.)Maintain pressure between 3 and 4 mm (Torr) with main valve.

F.)When the glass reaches 200C/392F, reduce pressure to 1.5 Torr and increase to 400mA.

G.)When the electrodes are completely red and the glass has reached 230C/450F, open the main valve for a few seconds and then switch off the bombarder.

H.)With the main valve open, allow the tube to cool to around 50C/125F with a vacuum gauge reading less than 5 microns.

I.)Fill the unit with gas.

 

A.)Evacuate unit to the point where you can close main valve and strike an arc in the tube.

B.)Increase current to 250mA and evacuate a small amount with the main valve whenever the tube starts to dim.

C.)When the unit reaches 150C/310F, increase the current to 350mA making sure the pressure is controlled with the main valve.

D.)When the glass reaches 200C/392F, increase the current to 400mA.

E.)When the electrodes are completely red and the glass has reached 230C/450F, open the main valve for a few seconds and then switch off the bombarder.

F.)With the main valve open, allow the tube to be cooled to around 50C/125F with a vacuum reading of less than 5 microns.

G.)Fill the unit with gas.

 

*Bombarder size, length of tubing, diameter of tubing, and vacuum pump efficiency will all effect bombarding procedure. These instructions are based upon processing an 6' 15mm tube. Longer units or double pumping will require lower initial pressure and higher initial current (mA) to begin bombarding.
